The Illinois Housing Development Authority announced Monday a $1.1 million interest-free loan to help create affordable apartments for 28 homeless single mothers on Chicago's South Side.
Officials reported that the loan, granted to the nonprofit Brand New Beginnings organization, will go toward the purchase and rehabilitation of a three-story building near 57th Street and South Michigan Avenue. Victims of domestic violence, former substance abusers and ex-offenders will fill half of the units. The remaining 14 apartments will go to Section 8 renters who have been forced to leave dilapidated homes slated for demolition. Housing authority officials said that family and child counseling also will be available inside the building. By Mabelle Sese http://realestatepress.org |
