Officials reported that the loan, granted to the nonprofit Brand New Beginnings organization, will go toward the purchase and rehabilitation of a three-story building near 57th Street and South Michigan Avenue.

Victims of domestic violence, former substance abusers and ex-offenders will fill half of the units. The remaining 14 apartments will go to Section 8 renters who have been forced to leave dilapidated homes slated for demolition. Housing authority officials said that family and child counseling also will be available inside the building.
